The MB-X is a one piece forged featuring a hollow section. The first of its kind for a full forged iron

Most players prefer forged heads over cast due to its feel and sound at impact as they have a greater consistency in their grain structure compared to cast heads. Although due to the intensive heat and pressure during the forging process, the finest forged heads will have distortions in their microstructure. Each billet is heated up to 1200°C and hammered into shape with 1000 ton of force. This is so similar to how the Japanese samurai swords are quenched in water to obtain their strength. Air cooling from such high temperature will also cause the grains to shrink and not reach its full potential. As such, we re-heat each head again to austenite state and annealed over 72 hours in straw ash and this extra step is how we create the dense, premium and smooth feel we our renowned for. We are committed to delivering the highest and purest quality with our unsurpassable craftsmanship.

The Fujimoto Feel

Each and every head in the FT line, are re-heated once again after the forging and rested in a tempered straw ash for 72 hours.

Stage 1

Fresh Forged

The forging stress and fast cooling from the forging process cause the micro metal structure (grains) to be distorted.

Stage 2

REHEAT

At our factory, we place the heated heads inside a container filled with natural straw ash. This is a traditional blacksmith technique used for generations among the Japanese blacksmiths.

Stage 3

PERFECTION

After a long 3-day cooling process, all the metal structure within the head is re-structured evenly, creating the premium feel.

The history of Fujimoto Gikoh date back to the 1960s, during the post WW2 era. During this time, the people of Japan started to become more familiar with the Western culture and customs. The founder, Minobu Fujimoto began to notice other blacksmiths in the Ichikawa town talking about making forged irons heads again as it was banned during the war period.
